ATOM — Robot Kungfu (KRAI 2026)

A lighter control stack for this year's kungfu robot: an ESP serving a Wi-Fi hotspot, a custom phone app mirroring the standard client, and UDP packets for low-latency manual control, removing the mini PC and ROS from the loop. As a senior member I acted as team official, supporting the current core team through their research and development process rather than taking the main development role.

The conventional KRAI control setup pairs a mini PC running ROS with a custom desktop client. For ATOM's kungfu variant the team removed the mini PC entirely: an ESP exposes a personal Wi-Fi hotspot, a custom Android app built to mirror the look and function of the usual client sends UDP packets to the robot for low-latency manual control, and no PC sits inside the robot at all. My role this season was team official: I accompanied the current core team across their research and development and shared what the team learned building last year's robot, without leading the technical work myself.
